Single Tooth Implants
An implant preserves the health of that underlying bone by stimulating bone growth. An implant also preserves the health of surrounding teeth because, unlike a bridge, placing an implant does not require that adjacent teeth be ground down to support the replacement for the missing tooth. The crown placed on an implant looks and functions like a real tooth, and is as easy to keep clean.
To place a dental implant, a titanium post is set in the jaw to support the crown. This post provides a strong root for the replacement tooth as the surrounding bone bonds to it. Patients go home with a functional replacement tooth after the short initial procedure, and return to have a permanent crown set when the implant is stable. The resulting replacement looks and works so much like the real thing that you may very well forget that it is not.
