Single Tooth Implants

If you are missing just one tooth, a properly set dental implant is the best long-term solution for replacing it. Compared with traditional methods for replacing a missing tooth such as a tooth-supported dental bridge, a dental implant offers numerous advantages for esthetics and oral health. When a tooth is missing, the bone that previously held it in place tends to deteriorate.

An implant preserves the health of that underlying bone by stimulating bone growth. An implant also preserves the health of surrounding teeth because, unlike a bridge, placing an implant does not require that adjacent teeth be ground down to support the replacement for the missing tooth. The crown placed on an implant looks and functions like a real tooth, and is as easy to keep clean.

To place a dental implant, a titanium post is set in the jaw to support the crown. This post provides a strong root for the replacement tooth as the surrounding bone bonds to it. Patients go home with a functional replacement tooth after the short initial procedure, and return to have a permanent crown set when the implant is stable. The resulting replacement looks and works so much like the real thing that you may very well forget that it is not.
